Ribes Jostaberry’ is a cross between black currant and gooseberry. The berries are slightly larger than those of Black currant and taste even better, so this shrub deserves a place in every fruit garden. It is a thornless shrub that can grow up to 2 metres high. The ‘Jostaberry’ flowers in May and June with small and inconspicuous green-yellow flowers. The ripe berries look shiny black and taste like sweet Black currant. The berries are small, about 1.5 cm in size and can be picked between July and August. It is best to harvest the ‘Jostaberry’ when it is fully ripe. The berries hang in small bunches of 3 to 5. Birds also love these berries, so try to protect your bush from them! The shrub is very winter Hardy and in the first years you do not need to prune it, just remove the dead branches.”
