‘Ribes Easycrisp Lady Late’ is a gooseberry that produces fresh sweet fruits. The advantage of this shrub is that it has fewer prickles on the branches compared to other gooseberry species. This makes it easier to pick the fruit. This red gooseberry blossoms in April with green-white flowers and around July the fruits are ready to be picked. The fruits are extra large, round and dark red. It is not a common shrub to grow at home, but it is a very easy plant for the starting fruit gardener or for children who like gardening. The gooseberry is good for making jam or wine. In the winter, this bush loses its leaves and that is the best time for pruning. Without leaves, the bush can best be seen and so you can prune it back into the desired shape. This red gooseberry prefers a spot in the sun in soil that is not too damp. Gooseberries need support to grow. It is therefore advisable to tie the stems along a climbing frame or mesh.
