‘Prunus Avium Regina’ is one of the most popular cherry varieties in the Netherlands. It is a sweet cherry that ripens at the end of July. The fruits are firm, deep dark red in colour and have a long stem. Besides the fruity taste they will not burst or tear easily. Cherries are healthy! They contain a lot of carbohydrates, calcium and vitamin C. They are usually eaten out of hand. Besides the deliciously sweet fruit, the cherry tree also has an ornamental value. The tree has beautiful snow-white flowers at the end of April and May, and the leaves turn a lovely yellow-orange-red in the autumn. The cherry tree can be pruned at two times of the year, after flowering and after harvest. After the harvest is the best time, because then the tree can recover well from the pruning wounds. Prune the tree in such a way that an open crown is created with enough old branches that the light can penetrate.
