Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln’ is a particularly popular deciduous grass with a round, compact, clump forming habit. The leaves are narrow linear, medium to dark green, arching and arching, turning a golden yellow in autumn. Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln’ flowers from July to September with greenish creamy white spikes that turn greyish brown later in the autumn. It prefers a position in full sun or half-shadow and a well-drained, moderately fertile soil that is not too heavy. This pennisetum is fairly hardy and drought-tolerant, and tolerates sea wind and air pollution well. It is an attractive ornamental grass for the mixed border, the gravel garden, prairie garden or also useful as a tub plant and suitable as a cut flower.
