‘Malus Domestica Jonagold’ is a very well-known apple variety. Give the tree plenty of room to grow. It flowers in April and May with white-pink blossoms that grow into tasty apples. The fruit is large and red-yellow in colour with yellow-white juicy flesh. The taste is somewhat sweet and mildly acidic. Apples contain a lot of dietary fibre, vitamins and antioxidants. It is also the most widely eaten fruit in the Netherlands. Apples can be picked from late September to early October. It prefers a sunny, sheltered spot and preferably near another apple variety for pollination. In the first two to three years, it is a good idea to support the tree with tree poles. This prevents the tree from blowing askew and breaking down newly formed roots. Make sure there is enough water, especially in the first year. Pruning apple trees properly is quite difficult, usually 3 to 5 main branches should remain on which side branches can grow.
