Passiflora caerulea ‘Edulis’
‘Passiflora edulis’ is a beautiful and exotic passion flower. It is an evergreen climber with fresh green leaves. From July to October, it has beautiful large flowers with purple striped filaments in the centre. From the second year after planting, edible round, purple-brown passion fruits appear in autumn. The skin of the fruit is hard, smooth and inedible. Inside is soft yellow flesh with edible seeds. The flesh has a fresh, sweet taste. The plant needs support from a climbing frame or fence in order to grow. Pruning is not necessary, unless you think the plant is getting too big. It is a fast grower. For good growth, sufficient light is needed and it grows more abundantly in the sun. Passiflora Edulis’ can withstand the winter, but if it gets really cold, protect it. It is a plant that originates from tropical areas. You can protect it by placing a fleece or by bringing it inside.
