Actinidia arguta Weiki’ is a kiwi grape also known as mini-kiwi. The plant is a male variant of the kiwi grape. It does not bear fruit itself, but is necessary for the pollination of the female species of kiwi grape. That is where the fruits come from. The fruits of the kiwi grape are a lot smaller than those of the large kiwi plants. The skin of these kiwi grapes is smooth and thin and therefore easy to eat. They hang in large bunches on the plant. The cut fruit resembles a miniature kiwi, with a white core surrounded by a ring of black seeds and the typical pattern of lines. After a few years, the plant produces tasty fruits full of vitamin C, about 3 cm in size, in September-October. The kiwi grape is a climbing plant and therefore you can best help it by guiding it along a wall, climbing frame or pergola. The kiwi grape flowers in May-June with fragrant white flowers. It is fully winter Hardy and can tolerate temperatures up to -25 °C. Plant the kiwi plant in a sunny, somewhat sheltered spot. In late winter, cut back excessively long and form-disturbing branches and also remove old dried-up branches if the plant gets too big.
